Burial at Sea is a time honored tradition that is practiced around the world. Today, sea burials are gaining in popularity and acceptance because cremation is steadily becoming today’s choice by people from all walks of life. Our boat can only take up to six passengers during the Sea Burial Cruise due to Coast Guard restrictions. Other options are available, like a beach viewing, so please give us a call and we will work with you during this difficult time. This is not a fishing boat so your accommodations are always clean, dry and comfortable. We take the Burial at Sea Charter very seriously and treat you like a member of the family. A certificate will be mailed out shortly after the ceremony and will include the exact latitude and longitude and the time of the burial.
Always investigate the experience of the Captain of the charter vessel that you choose! Small licensed captain’s generally have minimal time at sea and NO commercial experience. Ask for a resume and credible maritime references. Captain Chuck Brown is real open water Unlimited Able Seaman and 200 GRT 500 ITC Tonnage Master, he has thousands of days at sea with real Blue Water and commercial experience!
The Captain and Vessel (Island Trader) are:
- State of California Cremated Remains Disposer License CRD-808
- Licensed and inspected by the US Coast Guard
- Fully insured
- Real Commercial and Blue Water Experience
- Resume and Professional Maritime References
We began our service for my Aunt on the deck with a group of family members. We all held a rose, said our prayer and shared some special memories.
Then, all but four of our group departed to Shoreline Village to enjoy a little sightseeing and a walk by the docks. Captain Chuck found the perfect spot for us to spread the ashes and throw our roses in. A seal popped up out of nowhere and then the Captain did a circle around the burial site.
It was a beautiful, memorable day thanks to Island Trader Charters and Captain Chuck Brown.
